Celebrity United's bold attempt to bring back the European Masters Charity Cup ended, once again, in failure. Despite taking 2-0 and 3-1 leads with goals from MC Harvey, Darren Campbell and Jez Edwards United were unable to hold on to the advantage once Madrid introduced their star international players in the second half including Fernando Hierro, Alfonso Perez, Louis Morales and Michel. The result was not in doubt and the Spaniards ran out comfortably 8-3 winners. Once again, the main downfall of British side was their inability to match the pace and technique once the internationals had been introduced. Hierro demonstrated why he played nearly 100 games for Spain and 400 for Real Madrid with his range of pass and movement which was still gracing the Premiership early last year. He helped himself to 2 goals along with 4 from Perez who has now netted 7 goals in 2 games against the touring side and 1998 World Cup Spanish forward, Michel, who weighed in with 2 well taken strikes.

The team enjoyed a presentation buffet at the Real Madrid complex after the match along with their own presentation evening with the awards.
